The Artist Pack distinquishes the Custom 22 in five ways. The triple grade maple top is beyond a "10", with a perfectly matched bookmark. Tuning hardware is dipped gold, not flaked, and the birds in flight inlay is from Paua mother-of-pearl shell, found only in New Zealand. Artist Pack guitars feature a verniered headstock with Paua PRS signature logo. All packed in a leather embossed case with gold fittings.

The Dragon II Treble ceramic bridge pickup has a hotter output, very big sound, good for driving VOX or Orange valve amps. The Dragon II Bass alnico neck pickup is stock on PRS Custom 22s. The nickel cover and months of tweaking have resulted in a pickup with McCarty like tones and a little more output to cover more styles. Dragon II pickups are voiced with a warm tone that falls between soapbars and EMG's.

The PRS Custom 22 comes with a 5-way rotary pickup select, that allow you to switch from a screaming lead to a beautiful bluesy bass tone, or from a cutting lead to a clean, classic rhythm tone with a flick of your wrist. It's like having a whole array of guitars all in one instrument: switching between a humbucker on the neck, the inside two coils in parallel for a bright strat-like tone, the inside two coils in series for a Gibson-like humbucker, the outside two coils for a thin tele-like tone, or a humbucker on the bridge for a bright lead. PRS Guitars are easy to control. Three knobs are all it takes.

The patented PRS Tremolo System includes a special low-friction nut, a low headstock angle, PRS Self-Locking Tuning Pegs, a PRS Custom Machined Bridge and a pop-in adjustable arm. The PRS Self-Locking Tuning Pegs were developed for fast, dependable tuning and quick string changes. You simply slide the string in, lock it, clip it and tune it. The PRS Bridge pivots on a six point, hidden knife edge, allowing the bridge to return to it's original position every time. The saddles are held in a flush-fit pocket that prevents them from moving no matter how hard the arm is hit. The saddles are back-angled so you can feel the strings under your hand. Each part of the PRS Tremolo System works together to provide a successful, playable alternative to the usual difficulties of a locking system.

The 25" scale length is the optimum length for detuning with the PRS tremolo. 25" scale allows you to drop the E string without unsettling the PRS trem.
